Brief Bio
Originally from Melbourne, Victoria, Michel has lived on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland for over thirty years.
She studied Professional Children's Writing & Publishing and describes her writing style as fast-paced and humorous, with lots of unpredictability.
She is also passionate about creating books that engage reluctant readers, and uses humour as a way of
achieving this.
"Not all kids like to read, but they do like to laugh,
which can sometimes be the motivating factor to start them on their reading journey."
Her debut picture book, My Gran Does Karate in 2022 with Larrikin House, and has another picture due to be published in June 2026 with Lawley publishing in the United States.
She attributes her passion for writing, to reading countless children's books to her son when he was growing up—starting with picture books when he was only a few months old, all the way through to junior fiction.
Being reintroduced to the wonderful world of children's books as an adult allowed her to view them from a very different perspective.
