Michel Deverall
Children's Author
Brief Bio
Michel lives on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland with her husband and an adorable little poodle.
She studied Professional Children’s Writing & Publishing for three-years and describes her writing style as fast-paced, and humorous with lots of unpredictability.
Michel is passionate about engaging reluctant readers, and uses humour to spark a love of books and help children discover the joy of reading.
“Not all kids like to read, but they do like to laugh—which can sometimes be the motivating factor that starts them on their reading journey.”
Her debut picture book, My Gran Does Karate, was published by Larrikin House in 2022.
She also has two upcoming picture books with Lawley Publishing in the USA:
How to Build a Better Brother (June 2026) and Cookie Chaos (April 2027).
Michel credits her passion for writing to the countless children’s books she shared with her son when he was growing-up—from picture books when he was just a few months old, right through to junior fiction.
Rediscovering the magic of children’s books as an adult gave her a whole new appreciation for the creativity, heart, and craft behind them.
